Mary Janice "Jan" Hellmers, born July 17, 1935, passed away December 22, 2020, in Little Rock, Ark., of natural causes. She was 85. Jan was born in Lake Village, Arkansas and lived in both Lake Village and Greenville, Mississippi during her lifetime. A graduate of Lakeside High School in Lake Village Arkansas she was an honors student, Miss Chicot County and a contestant in the Miss Arkansas pageant. She obtained her Registered Nursing degree from Warner Brown Hospital and worked at King's Daughters Hospital in Greenville, Mississippi for over 30 years. While working and raising a family she was also active in the community. She was the first woman ever elected to the Washington County Mississippi Board of Supervisors, served in the American Cancer Society, DAR, Catholic Alter Society and many other clubs and groups. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greenville, Mississippi. Jan was preceded in death by her father Fred Zieman, Sr., mother, Stella Cook Zieman, husband, Wolf Karl Hellmers, brother, Fred Zieman, daughters, Elizabeth Acker Mott and Margaret Kathryn Acker. She is survived by her son, Mark Riable (Kathy) of Little Rock, granddaughter, Lyndsey Mott Oconnell (Kevin) of Denver, Colo., grandson, Hudson David "Taylor" Mott (Lee) of Jackson, Mississippi, grandson, Justin Riable of Little Rock, sister-in-law, Patty Zieman, four great-grandchildren and other extended family members. A private graveside service will be held by the family. Boone Funeral Home in Greenville, Miss., is in charge of arrangements.
