Virginia Ruth Brewer

Virginia Ruth Rowden Hale Brewer, 94 of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 28 at the Prairie Grove Health and Rehabilitation Home in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. She was born to Otis and Mattie (Franks) Rowden on August 21, 1925 in Oxford, Arkansas. She was united in marriage to Richard Eston "Gabby" Hale and they were blessed with four sons. As a committed wife and mother, she worked part time during the years of rearing her children. Never missing a sporting event that her sons played in she became skilled at calling football, basketball, and baseball games before the referees did. Her hobbies included reading, shopping, and "browsing" as she referred to it in the antique stores. After the loss of her husband, Richard "Gabby" Hale and rearing of her children, she pursued a career with Arkansas State University and eventually retired from there. Her life was a living example of devotion and faithfulness to Jesus Christ. She is survived by her sons Richard and wife, Pat of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Leslie and wife, Pam, of Allen, Texas and Phillip and wife, Shelby of Springfield, Missouri; sister, Betty Cochran of Lee Summit, Kansas; her grandchildren, Bryan (Katherine) of Farmington, Arkansas, Nicholas (Meredyth) of Allen, Texas, Seth (Margaret) of Denver, Colorado, Jacob of Overland Park, Kansas, and Lauren of Springfield, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Matt and Ben of Allen, Texas, Parker and Addison of Farmington, Arkansas and Augustus of Denver, Colorado. And one very devoted friend, Henry Akers of Farmington, Arkansas. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Grandma Jenny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Mattie (Franks) Rowden, a baby son, her husband, Richard Eston Hale, a grandson, Richard Scott Hale, her second husband, Harry O. Brewer, siblings, Evelyn King, Paul Rowden, Nova Robbins and Harold Rowden. A funeral service will be held at Prairie Grove Christian Church in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, 611 Wayne Villines Rd., on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 11 a.m. Grandson Bryan Hale and Dewayne Reeves will officiate. Interment to follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
