Ikey Terry Walker

Ikey Gene Terry Walker was born on July 13, 1933 to Ollie and Ike Terry of Ben Lomond, AR. She Passed away on June 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Haskel Terry of Tulsa, OK and a sister Blanch Privitt of Nashville, Ark. The love of her life, Burl Walker left her on June 8, 2016, one month short of their 63rd anniversary. Ikey graduated from Ashdown High School in 1951, she was a great basketball player and a proud pantherette. After school, she worked in several jobs, July 26, 1953; she married Burl Walker while he was AWOL from Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. When Burl was honorably discharged from the army, they moved to Dallas, Texas where Burl attended barber school. Ikey worked for an insurance agency while there. In July of 1960, they moved to Ashdown, AR opened a barber business which was successful until Burl's retirement. Ikey was a stay at home mother until Jeanenne was old enough to stay alone, and then she returned to the work force. Her final job was with Carpet's Etc. in Ashdown. Besides being fabulous cook, friend, Ikey was an accomplished embroiderer with her work being as beautiful on the bottom as the top side that all saw. Ikey was a member of Central Baptist Church in Ashdown from 1960. She and Burl were secretary and Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanenne (Mike) Vowell of Little Rock, Ark., granddaughter Jessie Vowell,and husband Joe Beaty great-grandson Asher Vowell, grandson Marcus Vowell of Winter Garden, FL. Several nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Flowers are welcome but in lieu of them please make donations to Central Baptist Church. Services will be Saturday June 20, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Madden Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday evening 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Brother Don Embry will be officiating.
