Emeline Jane Pope Glass was born on November 13, 1923 and died on May 9, 2020. Known to the community as Mrs. Jane, she will always be Ma'am to her family. Born in Marvell, Arkansas, Ma'am lived there most of her life where she raised a sister and a daughter, spent countless hours with and influenced the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and touched the lives of more people than could even be recognized. She attended college in Monticello, Ark. and after her marriage to Gerald Glass, lived in Conway, Ark. and Fayetteville, Ark. while he attended college and Oxford, Miss. while he was in Pharmacy School at Ole Miss. Ma'am was extremely active in community and church events. She was a member of the Marvell United Methodist Church for 85 years and served on numerous boards, both locally and at a district level. She taught Sunday School classes, for all ages, where she had a huge impact on many, both young and old. She spent hours volunteering within her community. From teaching adult literacy classes to delivering Meals on Wheels with her grandchildren to time spent helping with the Marvell Food Pantry, she was a constant presence in Phillips County. Ma'am was a member of the Marvell Civic Club and was recognized as Citizen of the Year in 1998. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she served as Secretary of the James Bate Chapter. She was also a very active member of the Tri-County Genealogy Society. Many people remember her from the years spent running Anderson's Drug Store where she quietly managed all aspects of the store. An avid Razorback fan, her friends and family knew to not call or interrupt while the Razorbacks were on TV. Ma'am always gave the best advice, even if it was not what you wanted to hear. Her quiet dignity, beautiful smile and Southern charm cannot be replicated and will be missed by everyone that was touched by her gentle spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gerald J. Glass and her sister DeVaney Pope Roberts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Clark Hall; granddaughter, Kimberly Clement; grandson, Russell Hall; great-grandson, Mason Clement, and great-granddaughters, Tisha Hall and Harper Hall Clement, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Larry and Barbara Pope Moeller. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, whom she considered her grandchildren. Her family would like to recognize in appreciation the ladies who helped make her final years as peaceful as possible: Cotina Bennett, Revertis Gist, Mildred English and Jackie Martin. Due to guidelines issued from the federal government and the Center for Disease Control it is recommended that gatherings should not exceed 50 people; therefore, at this time we will not be posting funeral dates and times in order to limit the risk of spreading COVID-19. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Ma'am requested no flowers but asked that donations be made to the Marvell United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 660, Marvell, Ark. 72366 in her memory. Service will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571. Relatives and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/westhelena.
