Jessie Gladden West

Jessie Gladden West passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, May 9, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born on March 25, 1924, in Caddo Gap, Arkansas to the late Herbert and Celia Gladden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Orlin West, and her four brothers, Charles Gladden, Tom Gladden, Bob Gladden, and James Gladden. Jessie is survived by her son, Doug West and wife Peggy of Sheridan, Arkansas, her brother Larry (Beth) of Flower Mount, Texas, grandsons Jonathan West (Wendy) of Benton, Arkansas, and Dr. Andrew West (Caitlin) of Rogers, Arkansas, as well as four great grandchildren, Ian, Brennan, Charlie, and Ellie. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends. She was a graduate of Caddo Gap High School and Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she majored in Music with a performance emphasis in piano. She continued to play piano her entire adult life serving as the church pianist for First Baptist Church, Dumas for over 50 years. Her professional life was spent as a music teacher in the Dumas School District for over 30 years. Jessie's life can be defined by her faith in God, her service to her church, First Baptist Church of Dumas, and her love of family. In later years she was active in the Delta Memorial Hospital Auxiliary by working at the hospital store, blood drives, and other auxiliary projects. Her family would like to thank Saline Memorial Hospice Care for their loving care and support. Due to the current health guidelines a private graveside service will be held. A memorial service is planned for later date due to covid-19.
