GILBERT WILLIAM "Gil" BERNARD (age 83) of Little Rock passed away May 2, 2020 after a long battle with Cancer. He was born in Long Island City, New York, NY on January 26, 1937 to Gilbert William Sr. and Julia Dolores Bernard. He was a 1954 graduate of ALL Hallows Institute, Bronx, NY. and was an 8-year veteran of the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in December 1965. Gil lived in Lansing, Michigan for 25 years. He married the love of his life Bonnie Jean Hartz Sime Bernard in February 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, Michigan. He worked for Lansing School District in Data Processing as a systems analyst and Michigan National Bank for 10 years in the Bank's Data Processing division. He then was employed by Systematics Inc. Little Rock, AR in 1985 and subsequently Alltel Information Services (AIS) in 1991 due to the acquisition of Systematics Inc. Gil retired from AIS in September 2002. Gil was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert W. Bernard Sr. and Julia Dolores Bernard of New York City and wife of 44+ years Bonnie Jean Hartz Sime Bernard in October 2009. Also, his brothers Francis X. Bernard, Larwrence Bernard and his sister Stella Marie Muntzner and grandson Thomas Arnold Sime. He is survived by his sisters, Clare Ann (Ron) Knoblock and Adrienne Laier. His sons Thomas Alger (Jane)Sime, Timothy Michael (Marcia)Sime; His daughters Jennifer Ann Broyles and Stephanie Jean (Donald) Briley. Grandsons Stephen Lawrence Sime, Tyler Gilbert Briley and granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Sime (Clark) Powell , Savannah Jean (Josh)Goodson and Sydney Ann Broyles and Great Grandsons C J Powell, Cameron Powell and Connor Powell, Great Granddaughters Savanna Joy Sime and Avery Claire Goodson and many nieces, nephews and friends. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Center 4301 W. Markham St. #816, Little Rock, AR 72205. Gil had many friends in Little Rock and Michigan and will be missed by all. Gil was past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles# 60 and canteen member of VFW# 9095. Gil lived in Little Rock since 1985 where he made many friends. He will be missed. A Visitation-Rosary will be held from 6-8 pm, Thursday, May 21, 2020 with the Rosary starting at 7 pm in the chapel of Roller Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway. A Memorial will follow Friday, May 22 at 11 am in the chapel. Due to COVID-19 the State of Arkansas has issued a executive order restricting these gatherings to no more than 50 persons.
