Dr. Morris W. McMillon passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, in Bentonville, Ark., on Wednesday, November 25th at the age of 77. Morris is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Laura, and their three children: Doug (Shelley) McMillon, Lori (Chris) Haynie and David (Hannah) McMillon. He is also survived by his five grandsons that have been a tremendous joy in his life: Wesley (Madison) Haynie, Blake McMillon, Michael Haynie, Spencer McMillon and Seth McMillon as well as one great-grandson, Taylor Haynie, and one more grandson on the way, Asher McMillon. He also leaves behind two sisters: Judy Grooms and Janet Bradley of Jonesboro, Ark. Morris was born in Finch, Ark. in 1943 to N.J. and Clevie McMillon. He graduated from Nettleton High School, attended Arkansas State University and the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry where he graduated. He met Laura in high school, and they were married in 1964. Morris served his country in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army where he received a Bronze Star. After his military service, he opened a dental practice in Jonesboro, Ark., where he served his patients for 12 years. His family relocated to northwest Arkansas in 1983 where he served patients for another 20 years. He served his patients, throughout all these years, in a dedicated way. He earned a reputation for being caring, gentle, and effective. Over these past few months as we knew he would be passing away, he spoke passionately about his desire to help people through dentistry. Side-by-side with his wife, he did it well and we are very proud of him for his service to others throughout his military service and professional life. Morris loved to hunt quail and raise bird dogs but, most of all, he loved being with his family, playing basketball and other sports and games. He played basketball, almost every Sunday afternoon, with family and friends for over 40 years. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He showed us all what faithful dedication looked like. He showed us how to love. He showed us how to be faithful in death. We will miss him during this period when we're apart, but we look forward, with great joy, to the time when we will all be reunited, and his body will be made whole and healthy. The family will have a small graveside service given the pandemic. We don't want anyone to feel any pressure but if you would like to symbolize your love for our husband, father and grandfather, please donate to Fellowship Bible Church, Circle of Life Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the doctors and other caregivers from Mercy Hospital, the Mayo Clinic and Circle of Life Hospice. We are grateful for your kindness and expertise.
