Cleo B. Mattox, 98, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2020. She was born on September 7, 1922 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Thomas and Emily Burkett. She graduated with a BSE from Arkansas State Teachers (UCA), Master's MBE from University of Colorado, and earned her Doctorate in Curriculum Education, EdD, from the University of Alabama. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Burkett Mattox, Jefferson Hoppenjans Mattox (wife, Khuan), and Richard Valen Mattox; and granddaughters, Alicia Mattox White (husband, Blake) and Cassandra Goin LaFasto (husband, Alex); numerous great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends. Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel V. Mattox; parents, Thomas and Emily Burkett; and sister, Tommye Megaffin. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2020 at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Court, Little Rock. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Forest Hills Cemetery, 10201 Highway 5 N, Alexander.
