Fred Patrick Shores

Fred Patrick Shores, Beebe, Arkansas, age 82. Pat is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane Shores; his daughter Leslie Bates (Ronnie) of Hooks, Texas; his son David Scott Shores (Amy) of Lincoln Rhode Island; step-daughters Melissa Hay (Roger) of Kansas City, Kansas; Margo Humphrey (Dennis) of Valdez, Alaska; and Metra Scaife (Hunter) of Conway, Arkansas. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren Miranda Johnson (Tyler) of Atlanta, Texas and Sean Bates of Texarkana, Arkansas; Andi Shores and Nathan Shores of Lincoln, Rhode Island; Olivia Sullivan (Michael) and Madeline Hay of Kansas City, Kansas; Hannah Bell and Mary Claire Durr of Beebe, Arkansas; Emily Humphrey, Jared Humphrey, and James Humphrey all of Valdez, Alaska; and Marlee Scaife, Lyndee Scaife, and John Hunter Scaife, all of Conway, Arkansas. Pat is also survived by two great grandsons Reed Johnson and Jace Johnson of Atlanta, Texas. Pat is survived by one sister, Carrie Shropshire of Visalia, California. Pat is preceded in death by his mother, Patty Carnathan, his father Fred Shores, and his sister, Laura Bassett. Pat was born in West Helena, Arkansas on August 6, 1938. He graduated from Central High School in 1956 where he played for the Central High Indian Football team from 1954-56. Pat is also a graduate of the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Pat was in the Arkansas National Guard when Little Rock Central High was integrated and his unit was federalized. In 1988, Pat married his loving wife, Diane Trimble Shores. He worked for many years at East Arkansas Regional Mental Health Center in Helena, Arkansas until 2004. Then in retirement Pat worked three years as a part-time teacher in the Adult Education Department at Phillips Community College of University of Arkansas. Pat enjoyed sharing his love of theater and acting by performing in plays in the Texarkana Little Theater and Helena Little Theater group including "Father of the Bride", "Gypsy", "MASH", "Magical Moments in Theater Review", "The Foreigner", and "Plaza Suite." Pat was very civic-minded and always wanted to give back to his community. He was an original board member of The Sonny Boy Blues Society and The King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena. He was also a member of the Tri-County Fair Board, the Helena Country Club, the Kiwanis Club, and past president of the West Helena Lion's Club. Pat was also a committee member who helped to organize many Christmas Parades in Helena-West Helena. After living many years in Helena, he and Diane moved to Beebe in 2008. Pat was an avid golfer who spent many weekends on the golf courses in Helena and central Arkansas. Pat played in the Mississippi Seniors golf tournaments. He even scored a hole-in-one at Cypress Creek Golf Course in Cabot. He will also be dearly missed by all his friends at Beebe's Daylight Donuts Shop. Pat reminisced on his favorite memory of when he played baseball as a young man and one summer hit three walk-off homeruns in one tournament. Pat will be remembered by all for his quick wit, sense of humor, and enjoyment of a fine debate, but he was also known to have a soft side, especially when it came to entertaining his grandchildren. Memorials in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. A family memorial service will be held over the Thanksgiving holiday.
