Harold Newton McAfee, 89, of Amity, passed away October 18, 2020. He married the love of his life, Barbara Rast, when he was 19 and she was 17 – they were very happily married for 69 years. Harold (known to everyone as Mac) was extremely proud of his 20 year career in the Navy where he retired with the rank of Senior Chief Radioman. He held a degree in Mortuary Science and was a licensed Real Estate agent, and an auditor for the IRS for several years. He was also a free-mason. Harold designed and built his own house outside of Alpine where he and Barbara lived for 40 years enthusiastically watching the birds and deer. His favorite pastimes were fishing (or was it eating oatmeal Little Debbie's while he was fishing?) and taking trips around the country (he especially loved Mount Rushmore, Santa Fe, and the butterfly museum in the Florida Keys). Harold was born in Emmet, Texas, to Edmond Thomas McAfee (a rural Methodist minister) and Ola Dolly Gorham on May 31, 1931. He is preceded in death by both parents; his son, Dr. Hal McAfee of Arkansas; an older brother, Thomas McAfee from Texas; and younger brother, Porter McAfee from Texarkana. Harold is survived by his devoted and loving wife; his children, Ted McAfee (Gayle) of Texas and Rebecca McAfee of Little Rock; his daughter-in-law, Cindy McAfee of Little Rock; his grandchildren, Shawn McAfee (Amanda), Spencer McAfee (Megan) – both of Texas, Colin McAfee (Becca) of Louisiana, Kristen Pittman (John David) of Little Rock, and Thursday "Kaitlin" Sadler of Los Angeles. Harold was an adoring great-grandfather to Riley, Hazel, McKenna, Jameson, Emma, Remy, and Lilah. Harold also leaves behind a wonderful brother, Wayne McAfee (Kay) of Arkadelphia - Oh the stories they tell of growing up as preacher's kids! A special thanks to Ruby, Doris, Donna, Mildred and Tina for all of your loving care through the years. Funeral Service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, October 24, at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wayne McAfee Art Scholarship (Henderson State University). Online Guestbook: www.ruggleswilcox.com
