Dr. Norma Jean Compton died Friday, Oct. 23, 2020. She was 81 years old. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, J.T. Compton; three sons, Ken Compton of Conway, Kevin Compton of Little Rock, and Kris Compton of Ashville, N.C; two granddaughters, Lauren Hum of Conway, and Catie Halac of Longmont, Co.; a brother, Charles Vickers; a sister, Wilma Moore; a sister-in-law, Niva Lancaster of Springfield, Mo.; daughters-in-law, Debra Compton, Dana Compton and Karen Compton; and a host of nieces and nephews. Born August 26, 1939, in Stone County, Ark., she was a loving and dedicated mother to her sons, and a strong partner to the husband she married at 16 years old. As her sons reached their later teen years, she embarked on an educational career which saw her become an LPN and later a RN, then garnered masters and doctorate honors in the counseling and health science fields. For many years, she had a counseling practice in Little Rock and Morrilton, specializing in helping clients deal with the aging and failing health of family members. Due to COVID-19, memorial services will be delayed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Dr., Little Rock, Ark.
