Inseparable in death as they were in life, Frederick Eugene Ragland, Jr., 89, joined the love of his life, Gladys, in heaven on September 6, 2020, at Allay Health & Rehab in Little Rock, Ark., a mere ten days after her death. A lifelong resident of Stuttgart, he was born on June 18, 1931, to Frederick E., Sr. and Dorothy Smith Ragland. Fred graduated from Stuttgart High School and attended the U of A-Fayetteville, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduation from the UAMS College of Pharmacy, he joined his father as a pharmacist at Crowe Drug Co., until he opened Professional Pharmacy in 1968. He sold Professional Pharmacy when he semi-retired in 1985, and then worked part-time for Associated Pharmacies in North Little Rock as a liaison for its pharmacy members until his retirement. Fred was elected president of the Ark. Pharmaceutical Association in 1964-65, and served on the Ark. Pharmacy Board from 1964-1977. Active in the Stuttgart community, Fred refereed high school football games and played tennis in his younger years and served on the Stuttgart Planning Commission for 38 years. He loved planning/working his vegetable garden every year and was a Master Gardner, participating in many Arkansas County Master Gardner projects. Fred was a huge sports fan, but was most passionate about Razorback football, basketball and baseball. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Fore Ragland; two sons, Charles Burt and Frederick Brett Ragland; and his parents. Survivors are his daughter, Rebecca Walker; his brother, John Burt Ragland, both of Stuttgart; his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Don Loveless of Tulsa, Okla., and sister-in-law, Khamla Fore of Savannah, Ga.; six nieces and five nephews. His quick wit and dry humor will be greatly missed by family and friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie, 921 E. 4th St., Stuttgart, AR 72160. Please go to www.turpin-co.com to sign the online guestbook.
