William (Bill) Allen Shadle

William (Bill) Allen Shadle, Jr., passed away peacefully in his Sherwood, Ark., home on Saturday, September 26, surrounded by his wife and two sons. He was born in England, Ark., on August 2, 1943, to the late William Allen, Sr., and Myrtle Shadle (Johnson). He contracted polio as a child, which left him unable to use his legs. After graduating from Little Rock Central High School in 1961, where he was president of Quill & Scroll and editor of the newspaper, he earned a B.S. in Journalism at Arkansas State University. His first professional assignments were as a staff reporter at the Arkansas Gazette, where he worked the police beat. He eventually found his life's calling in public service and enjoyed a thirty-year career assisting families as an employee of the Social Security Administration. Shortly after retiring, he launched a new career as an office administrator at Arkansas CAMA Technology in North Little Rock. Though an avid writer and vocal advocate for the disabled, his greatest joy was showering love on his wife of forty-seven years, his two sons, and his two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Anne (Pye) Shadle; two sons, Douglas (Karen) of Louisville, Ky., and Matthew (Gisella) of Dale City, Va.; his two grandchildren, Avery and Cecily, both of Louisville; three sisters, Barbara Potter (James), Carolyn McColey, and Wanda Nobile (Tony); four nephews and many friends and extended family.
