Evelyn Gavin Hoover, 90, of Rison, died Wednesday, April 14, 2021. She was born May 2, 1930, in Collins, Ark., daughter of Clifton Harvey Gavin and Lillie Mae Webb Gavin. Mrs. Hoover was reared and received her early education in Woodlawn, graduating from Woodlawn High School. She worked for Ben Pearson for 28 years in production. Mrs. Hoover was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff for many years, before attending Prosperity United Methodist Church of Pansy for the last 30 years. She was active in the church, attending the United Methodist Women's Bible Study. She loved family gatherings, including her trips to the Mountain View Folk Festival. Mrs. Hoover loved to bake and was known for her sweet tooth, including her cakes and Dr. Pepper. She also loved to walk and was known by many in her neighborhood walking near her house. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husband, J.R. Spakes and Harold Hoover; brother, Billy Ray Gavin; and three sisters, Anna Laura Burdine, Willie Merle Grice and Helen Triplett. Survivors include two nieces, Susan Aikman (Rob) of White Hall and Tammie DeWees of Hot Springs; and two nephews, Scott Grice (Lori) of Pansy and James Burdine of Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, April 19, 2021, at Prosperity United Methodist Church with Reverend Boyd Savage officiating. Interment will follow in Pansy Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to Salvation Army, 501 East 12th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71601.
