Nan Hopper Hawkins

Nan Hopper Hawkins, age 93, died of natural causes on August 1, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Henry "Buddy" Hawkins; parents, Harvey and Lucille Hopper; and brother, Billy Marion Hopper. She is survived by her son, Frank Henry "Bo" Hawkins, and his wife, Connie, of Dover, Ark.; granddaughter, Allison Whiting, her husband, Cecil, and daughter, Charlotte Grace, of Conway, Ark.; and daughter, Meredith Hawkins, and husband, Gary Hall, of Roland, Ark. Born in Muskogee, Okla., and raised in Fort Smith, Ark., Nan attended the University of Arkansas, where she met her future husband Buddy Hawkins, who was lucky enough to marry the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. They ultimately made their home in Little Rock, where as a homemaker, Nan excelled. As a mother, she instilled a love of nature in both of her children and, as a life-long avid birdwatcher, spent many happy hours teaching Meredith to identify the different species by sight and sound. Nan was a long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church and moved to Presbyterian Village when no longer able to live on her own, Buddy having died from a heart attack many years earlier. Her family will be forever grateful to the PV staff for all the bingo games, cupcakes, and ice cream; and to her caregivers who gave such excellent care, treating her (and Meredith) like family during her time there. An additional thanks to them, and also to Arkansas Hospice, for their loving support and attention during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Village, Alzheimer's Arkansas, Arkansas Hospice, or the charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Avenue, Little Rock, Ark. on August 21st at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stacey Hammons officiating. P.S. If you have not yet done so, please get vaccinated!
