Betty Lou Gibson, age 87, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born on December 5, 1933, in Pindall, Arkansas, to the late Emmitt and Bessie (McDougal) Martin. Betty graduated from St. Joe High School in 1951. She was the youngest of nine children. Betty married Fayne "Hoot" Gibson in Harrison, Arkansas. They remained married for 59 years. Fayne and Betty owned and operated Hoots Drive-In until the late 1990's. Hoots was a Fayetteville legendary eating establishment for over 30 years serving South Fayetteville with Hoots Burgers, Fried Chicken, and Milk Shakes.Betty loved and cared for her grandchildren, singing to them and teaching about Jesus. Her hobbies included baking, long walks, traveling and reading. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Fayetteville where she taught children in Sunday School for over 30 years, was in the Gideon Auxiliary and sang in the church choir. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fayne; and seven siblings. Betty is survived her son, Larry Gibson and his wife Debbie of Springdale, daughters, Kathy Rice and her husband Lanny of Springdale, Lisa Culver and her husband Scott of Springdale, and Patricia Marshall and her husband Jeff of Fayetteville, and a sister, Mary Jo Slay of Marshall, Arkansas. Betty was blessed with 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Betty Gibson will be Monday, August 30, at 10 a.m., at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Pastor Eric Howerton officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 29, from 2–4 p.m., at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Interment will be at Buckner Cemetery.
