Bernal Doyle "Bernie" Brock, 85, of Rogers, passed away surrounded by family on December 26, 2020, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born October 8, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Virgil Marion and Alma Day (McLaughlin) Brock. He was raised, with brother Robert "Buck", in the Brock General Store near his family farm, then Oakland, and Atlantic, Iowa, which he described glowingly as "Camelot." Years later, he met Sussie, the love of his life, in Atlantic, whom he married in 1970. The two would raise a loving son, and go on to see much of the world together (47 countries and 50 states, he would have you know.) Bernie served in the U.S. Air Force as a nuclear weapons specialist, traveling the Pacific Islands, and Asia. He joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Northwest Missouri State, then earned a Business Admin. Degree from the University of Tulsa. After college he volunteered for the Peace Corps, working on agricultural and potable water projects in the mountains of Colombia. He then worked for Sinclair Oil in Iowa, and owned and operated Allied Mobile Power Wash in Dallas. Moving the family to Beaver Lake in 1980, he made his home in Rogers, managing property and bookkeeping. He served as a trustee for Central United and First United Methodist Churches. He was bookkeeper for Central Child Care and served on the board of FUMC's Mothers' Day Out Plus. Bernie loved good stories, humor, fixing everything, physics, problem solving, learning, teaching, and travel. He coached his son's Odyssey of the Mind teams, and volunteered at Eastside Elementary, and church service projects. He rebuilt old boats with his son, and relished a good adventure. Bernie is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Sussie" (Van Cleave); his son, Scott (Lara); and grandchildren, Max, and Emma Jane; as well as many nieces and nephews. In his memory he would ask that you "Do what you can, where you can, when you can." His love and support will be sorely missed. A military graveside service will be held for family and friends at Pinnacle Gardens Cemetery in Rogers on Tuesday, January 5, at 2 p.m. The service will also be live-streamed. Donations in Bernie's honor can be made to First United Methodist Church's Mothers' Day Out Plus, 307 W. Elm St., Rogers 72756, or Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, 72762. Arrangements by Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, 72756. Condolences and details on live-streaming can be found at www.bentoncountyfuneralhome.com
