On Saturday, January 9, 2021, Elager "Mickey" DeBose, III, was called home to be with the Lord. Born in the city of Monroe, La., Elager "Mickey" DeBose, III, was born September 19, 1956, to Cora E. Long DeBose and Elager "Big Mickey" DeBose, II. He was a 1974 graduate of Dollarway High School and a 1979 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, were he was a member of the Golden Lion Football team and a member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Following his college tenure, Mickey became a Piping Design Engineer with Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in Pine Bluff. When the opportunity presented itself, Mickey moved his family to Birmingham, Ala., where he was offered a position as Project Engineer with RUST Engineering Firm. When he was asked to return home to care for his ailing mother, Mickey did not hesitate and returned to Pine Bluff, where he dedicated the remaining 28 years of his life's work to the Evergreen Packaging family (formerly International Paper). If you knew Mickey, you knew that he was the life of the party. He was a devoted husband, father, son, nephew, cousin and friend and his children and grandchildren were the lights of his life. He loved watching college football and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. Mickey was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and William Townsend Elks Lodge. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Zelda R. DeBose McClay; his grandparents, Sam and Lila Turner Long; and Elager and Willie Daniel DeBose. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Deirdre C. Vaughn DeBose; four children, Elager "Miguel" DeBose IV, Kia S. Coleman, Corey C. DeBose and Kennedy C. DeBose; seven grandchildren, Mariah, Jordan, Elager IV, Zacchaeus, Kennedy K., Kylan and Sky'lar DeBose; mother-in-law, Maxine Vaughn; brothers-in-love Dennis Vaughn (LaShuan), David Vaughn, Jr. (Carmelita); only niece, Shelby Vaughn; aunt, Ethel Belt, uncle Johnny Long and a host of relatives and friends. Viewing 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2021, at Brown Funeral Home Pine Bluff, Ark. A Rosary service will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at St. Peter Catholic Church Pine Bluff, Ark., by Father Tom Mullally, SVD. The funeral service will start after the Rosary.
