James Christopher Nicholson, 89, of Bentonville, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at his home. He was born March 6, 1931, in Ash Flat, Arkansas, to Owen Clayton Nicholson and Addie Irene Long Nicholson. James was a long-time resident of Northwest Arkansas, having moved from Ash Flat in 1967. He worked for 31 years as a cost clerk for Cooper Communities before his retirement. James was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan since he was a child, and also enjoyed watching the Arkansas Razorbacks. He coached Bentonville Little League and Babe Ruth League Baseball for 17 years. At 60 years old, he pitched batting practice to the 1991 Babe Ruth All Stars, who won the first 15-year-old Bentonville State Championship. He knew over 200 gospel songs by heart and loved to sing them. He also loved making and tending his vegetable garden each year. He was a member of the Bentonville Church of Christ. James was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Parnell, Ernie, and Dexter Nicholson; and two sisters: Mattie Shope and Sue Webb. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sherry Nicholson of Bentonville; three sons: Chris Nicholson (Donna) of Bentonville, Shawn Nicholson (Rachel) of Seligman, Mo., and Eric Risher (Trisha) of Bentonville; one daughter, Allison Stephenson (Steve) of Golden, Mo.; three brothers: Presley Nicholson (Brenda) of Cabot, Wilbur Nicholson (Syble) of Sherwood, and Wesley Nicholson (Tonya) of Smithville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Donna Swaim of Wake Village, Texas; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Bentonville Cemetery in Bentonville, Ark.
