Howard Lloyd Muirhead

Howard "Lloyd" Muirhead, 97, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away due to Covid-19 complications January 12, 2021. Lloyd was born September 10, 1923, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., to the late William Muirhead and Icil (Morris) Muirhead. Lloyd was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Okinawa. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal in 1945 and received the Marine Corps League Distinguished Citizen Bronze Medal in 2018 for his numerous years of service to his country and community. Lloyd was a member of the Fly Tyers Club, 44 Club in Nebraska, MFA Golf Association, Eighteen Hole Golf, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Nagel Group, and Elks in Rogers. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Muirhead, sister, Lela (Muirhead) Peterson, stepson, Douglas Payne, and son-in-law, Jack Van Wechel. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marilyn of Bentonville, son, Brent Muirhead of Alpharetta, Ga., two daughters, Joy (Muirhead) Van Wechel of Anthem, Ariz., and Renee (Muirhead) McFerron of Aurora, Colo., two stepchildren, Jeff Payne of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Deborah Hogan of Gretna, Neb., nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a visitation will not be held. A memorial service and burial will be held at Fayetteville National Cemetery with full honors by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard but is limited to family members only.
