Joyce Evelyn Hopkins

Joyce Evelyn Causey Hopkins, age 75 of Monticello, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, May 30, 2021, at her home. She was born March 29, 1946, in Lacey, Ark. to the late Macon Causey and Frances DeLois Young Causey. She was a 1964 graduate of Drew Central High School, a 1968 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello (Bachelor of Science in Education) and a 1971 graduate of the University of Central Arkansas (Master of Science of Education). After teaching business at St. Charles & Star City Schools and UAM, Joyce spent 23 years as Monticello School District Treasurer. Joyce was a 40-year member of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church, member of the Monticello Billie Band Booster Club, lifetime member of the Southern Assoc. of School Business Officials, lifetime member of the Arkansas Teacher Retirement Assoc., and served as Secretary & President of the United Way board. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bobby Brown, and a nephew, Anthony Brown. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Larry Hopkins of Monticello; two daughters, Terri (Michael) Cossey of North Little Rock and Holli Wood of Monticello; grandsons, Nate and Chase Wood of Monticello; siblings, Brenda Brown of Spring, Texas, Sherrill (Bill) Scroggins of Lacey, Mike (Brenda) Causey of Richland, Mo., Connie (Tom) Ollie of Swansea, Ill., Mark (Tina) Causey of Neosho, Mo. and Vaughn Causey of Gainesville, Va.; a great aunt, Jean Tucker of Monticello; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dwayne Roper officiating. Burial will be in Lacey Cemetery in Drew County, Ark. There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Arkansas Hospice and Lacey Cemetery Association.
