Claron Allen (Buddy) Childress age 84, a lifelong resident of Des Arc, passed away Tuesday June 8th. Buddy was preceded in death by his son, Walt Emerson Childress; two infant granddaughters, Jennifer Childress, and Amyra Childress his only sister, Cannie Ruth Skarda; and parents Buck and Natalie Childress.
Buddy was born December 17th, 1936 in Morrilton, Ark., and his family moved to Des Arc shortly afterward. He graduated in 1955 from Des Arc High School, and furthered his education at Harding and Henderson Universities, where he was a voice major. Buddy married Ann, the love of his life, in 1958 and they soon moved to Springfield, Mo., where Buddy started his musical career. Buddy was a very gifted vocalist and landed a job on the nationally broadcasted Ozark Jubilee where he had the opportunity to sing with legends such as Tex Ritter, Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline. Although he continued to use his vocal talent, Buddy started his own business and operated Childress Pest Control in Des Arc for almost 60 years.
Buddy loved people, and his compassion was a driving force of his life. He was a faithful caregiver and helper of those in need. Buddy had a unique zest for life, lived to serve God and people, and his family was the center of his joy. He will be deeply missed.
