Hazel Evelyn Phelps, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 3, 2021. Hazel was born November 25, 1925, in Henryetta, Okla., to George Jesson and Mollie Bell Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Wanda Hill, Jackie Beaman, and Geraldine Blaylock, and brothers, Burman Rex Moore, and W.F. "Bill" Moore. Hazel attended Butner, Okla., schools and loved playing basketball in school and graduated from Edmond High School in 1943. She married Quincy Dolen Phelps that same year and the two of them loved to go dance to Bob Wills and other performers of the day. Hazel and her family moved around the oil field work in the 50s; they moved to Paris, Ark., where she lived almost 35 years before she moved to Fayetteville, Ark., in 1991 to be closer to some of her grandchildren. She was a servant to people all her life; ensuring others were taken care of either through being a CNA, church or schoolwork. Hazel was known to be a great homeroom mother for her children's classes and a willing volunteer for other civic and school events. She loved talking about her children, grandchildren and all their families to anyone who would listen. She always said, "Love You More" to each of her family members at the end of each visit. She had been a resident of Arkanshire, Morningside of Springdale and Springhouse Village the last years of her life. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by her sister, Carmelita Grant of Cromwell, Okla., and Melba Hail of Sulphur, Okla., and daughters, June Constable Haney (Jim) of Kimberling City, Mo., Angela Thames (Jeff) of Springdale, Ark., and sons, Clifford Ray of Greenwood, Ark., and Joe Dolen of Livingston, Mont., along with grandchildren, Liz Stewart (Dave) of Topeka, Kan., Cindy McDonald (Bryan) of Salina, Kan., Melissa Lewis (William) of Kansas City, Mo., Douglas Phelps of Spokane, Wash., Emilie Phelps of Los Angeles, Calif., Holly Shotzman (Kevin) of Charleston, Ark., Devan Engster (Rob) of Ft. Smith, Ark., Jonathan Thames (Jess) of Bentonville, Ark., Andrew Thames of Conway, Ark., 11 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale and a private graveside service is planned for the family. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a favorite charity.
