Robert "Bob" Benz

On November 23, Robert "Bob" Benz, 80, of Benton; loving husband, father of two and grandfather to six, passed away peacefully. Bob was born on January 25, 1941, in Norristown, Pa., to Clarence and Marie (Doll) Benz. He graduated from Searcy High School and ASU, earning his Masters degree in counseling psychology from Oklahoma State University. Bob worked over 40 years for the Arkansas Department of Human Services at the Arkansas Health Center, the Arkansas State Hospital and the Alexander Human Development Center. In addition, he worked in schools throughout Arkansas and for community mental health centers. Bob especially loved hunting, fishing, sports and electronic gadgets. He was generous to a fault, often giving away his tools and other possessions to others. While his health allowed, he enjoyed exercising, working in the yard and several memorable vacations with his wife Kim. Bob loved the numerous cats he and Kim were blessed with over the years and they loved him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kim; his children, Karl Benz ((Tyfnae) and Karla Lawrence (Matt); his grandchildren, Brayden, Braxton, and Brantly Lawrence, Charlie, Jack, and Meribah Benz; his brother, Bill Benz (Brenda); niece, Kelli Hartje; and nephew, Jesse Benz. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, from 6-8 p.m., and a private family service the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Saline County Humane Society or the First United Methodist Church of Benton. Online guestbook at www.ashbyfuneralhome.com.
