Charles Edward Medford

Charles Edward "Chuck" Medford of Berryville, Ark., departed his earthly home Monday, August 30, 2021, one day prior to his 79th birthday. Chuck was born August 31, 1942, to James Edward "Ed" Medford and Helen Elizabeth Corley Medford in Monroe County, Arkansas. He was a 1960 graduate of Brinkley High School. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard. Chuck's real calling for life was in law enforcement. In 1964, he joined the Pine Bluff Police Department. In 1968, he began his almost 30-year career as a trooper with the Arkansas State Police. After his retirement from ASP in 1995, he served four terms as Carroll County Sheriff, 1997-2000, and 2003-2006. Following his time in the sheriff's office, he served as a bailiff in Carroll County District Court. At the time of his death, he was in his words, "serving ill will and discontent" as a process server. Chuck is preceded in death by both his parents and his grandparents, E. B. and Eula Medford and Charles and Ola Corley, all of Brinkley, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Marjie Lee Medford of Berryville, and four sons, Fred Medford of Memphis, Tenn., Jeff and wife Annette Medford of Conway, Ark., Scott and wife Sherrie Medford of Nokomis, Fla., Daniel and wife Tracey Medford of Heber Springs, Ark., a stepdaughter, Sabrina and husband Paul Shoemaker of Wichita, Kan., and a stepson, Bud and wife Annette Phillips of Green Forest, Ark. Other survivors include one brother, Larry and wife Toni Medford of Keithville, La., and one sister, Bobbi Medford DeBusk and husband J. R. DeBusk of Alma, Ark. Additionally, Chuck is survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Memorial Service and Honor Guard will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, located at The First Baptist Church, 215 West Elm St., Brinkley, Ark. There will be a 21 Gun Salute graveside after, located at Upper Cemetery, HWY 49 South, Brinkley, Ark. Another Memorial Service will be held in Berryville, Ark., at a later date.
