Merrie Jack Hosey
Merrie Jack Hosey, 93, of Marvell, Ark., passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Hosey was born on February 26, 1928 in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Jack McKinney and Merrie Leigh Horn McKinney. She lived all her life in Marvell, and graduated as the salutatorian in the Marvell High School graduating class of 1945. After graduating high school Merrie Jack attended Hendrix College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in education.
She moved back to Marvell and married E. J. Hosey, love of her life, on December 20, 1952, and were married 63 years until his death in 2015.
Merrie Jack had a love for children and taught elementary school for many years at Good Luck School and Marvell Elementary School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught pre-school Sunday School for over 30 years.
Merrie Jack was a wonderful cook. She and E.J. loved to cook together for family and friends, especially at birthdays and holidays. They were always looking for an excuse to throw a party. Her favorite thing was making sugar cookies for all the neighborhood children.
She will always be remembered for making homemade glazed donuts and hot chocolate and inviting friends and family over at the first snow of the year.
Merrie Jacks favorite holiday was Christmas. "Grandmother" will always be remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren for always finding the perfect gift. She made it special for everyone.
Merrie Jack is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Karen Hosey of Marvell; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Chris Kale of Marvell; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Curtis) Schaffhauser, Bonnie (Scotty) Fraiser, Laura (Michael) Taylor, and John (Allison) Kale; eight great-grandchildren; Reese and Jackson Schaffhauser, Collin and Catherine Fraiser, Merrie Leigh and Wells Taylor, and Katie and John Kale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Hosey, Sr.; and a grandson E.J. Hosey III
The family would like to acknowledge the great care and compassion shown to "Grandmother" over the last eight years: Annie Rubio, Lennie Barlow, Mandy Boose, Lucille Dotson, Shardaya Jones, Gertrude Jones, and Carol Logan.
