PAMELA JEFFREY HICKS was born on February 4, 1960 in Richmond, Va., to David and Suzanne Hicks. The oldest of six children, Pam had Down Syndrome. Her uninhibited and larger- than-life personality made quick friends of complete strangers. Pam was a huge sports fan and was especially fond of the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Saint Louis Cardinals, and the Dallas Cowboys. Her introductions often included that she was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader! Pam loved birthdays – especially her own. She would tell everyone she met that her birthday was February 4th. Though she loved celebrating her own birthday, she also knew all of her family member's birthdays and would send each of them birthday cards containing a $1 bill. Pam loved bowling, horseback riding, and especially swimming. She regularly competed and won many gold medals as a swimmer in the Arkansas Special Olympics and even medaled at the International Special Olympics in Rochester, N.Y. Throughout her lifetime, Pam had many interests and hobbies. She was a talented cross-stitch artist, and loved to give her creations to those she loved. She loved transcribing recipes from cookbooks. She also was an avid photographer and captured countless images of the people she loved. Pam worked at Easter Seals in Little Rock for the better part of 40 years. A true music lover, Pam was also well known for her dance moves. Her favorite artists were Elvis Presley and John Denver, whom she met backstage before his concert in Pine Bluff, Ark., in 1980. At the conclusion of his show, Denver dedicated Pam's favorite song "Calypso" to her. Pam had perfect comedic timing. Her funny quips are part of the Hicks family lore. Pam passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, while listening to John Denver's music. Pam is preceded in death by her father David Hicks, Jr. She is survived by her mother Suzanne Hicks; her siblings David Hicks (Suzanne); Susan Hicks Lausmann; Catherine Hicks McLaughlin (David); Geoffrey Hicks (Kristin); Elizabeth Hicks Hill (Sam); and 11 nieces and nephews: Will, Ben, Sophia, Ellie, Corie, Kate, Jack, Livi, Charlie, Jake, and Tucker. The family would like to recognize and thank everyone who worked with Pam, in particular Pearline Bishop, Susan Smith Bowden and Donna Morey. The funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Little Rock on November 20th at 11 a.m. Donations can be made to the Pamela Hicks Memorial at the Arkansas Down Syndrome Association: ardownsyndrome.org/donate To share your love and support with the family and sign the online guest book please visit griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
