Luther Jackson (Jack) McHaney, age 73, passed away on Friday, October 22, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a brief illness. Jack was born in Dallas, Texas, where his dad attended dental school. He was the son of Luther Jackson McHaney Sr. and Martha Mosley McHaney. Jack grew up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he graduated high school in 1964. Jack attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduation from the University, Jack joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. There he served as a chaplain's assistant and was then part of the reserves for four years. After his time at Fort Dix, Jack was employed by Cooper Communities of Bella Vista, Arkansas. In 1970 he received his real estate broker's license, and in 1976 founded Harris-McHaney Real Estate with his longtime friend and business partner, Pat Harris. Jack continued to work in real estate until his death. Jack's involvement with and commitment to his local community started at a young age. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 16. He also served as a camp counselor at Ozark Boys Camp (Camp Ozark) for two years and was voted class Vice President his senior year in high school. In additional to his work in Northwest Arkansas real estate, Jack was elected to the Rogers City Council where he served for 26 years. He also served as Mayor Tempore in 2001–2002 when Mayor, Steve Womack, was deployed. Jack was a past member of the early Risers Rotary and served on the board of First Western Bank. Currently he was a member of the Northwest Arkansas Conservation Authority (NACA). Jack is preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, Cathy McHaney and their daughters, Mandy Thompson (Heath) and Mikki DeWitt (Sean) and five grandchildren, Emily Greer (Grayson), Molly Thompson, Lily Thompson, Hallie DeWitt and Jack DeWitt. He is also survived by his brother, Mike McHaney (LaDonna) and sister Laura Nix (Joe Nix and niece Erin Gilleece). Lasting memories of Jack include a lifetime of dedication, a love of his relationship with the Lord, Cathy, their children, grandchildren, and many friends. He loved you all! The family belonged to Central United Methodist Church of Rogers where Jack was a Stephen Minister, served on the Missions Committee, facilitated Sunday school classes and worshiped. He was also part of many mission trips under the leadership of Rev. Les Oliver. Jack loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and especially enjoyed time at their cabin on the Kings River. Many an evening was spent on the "gravel bar" watching the sun set or riding in his side-by-side with his faithful companion, Remi. The team at Coldwell Banker Harris McHaney & Faucette put it perfectly, "Jack built a legacy of community, mentoring others and leading the charge to put the greater good above all else." Visitation will be Friday, October 29, from 5–7 p.m., and Memorial Service Saturday, October 30, at 11 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 2535 W. New Hope Rd., Rogers, Ark., 72758. A live stream of the service will be available at: cumcrogers.com/livestream. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Central United Methodist Church, at 2535 W. New Hope Rd., Rogers, Ark., 72758, 479-636-1630.
