Janet "Jan" Claire Spears Smith, 83, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away September 6, 2021. She was born May 12, 1938, to the late Dorothy and Luther Spears. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 55 years, Henry T. Smith. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her kindness, wit, and unselfishness. She graduated in 1956 from Little Rock Central High School. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She remained close to her sisters throughout the years. She retired from IBM after 27 years of service. Jan had many friends, dating back to Junior High School. She enjoyed her monthly gatherings at Izzy's with her High School classmates. In her retirement years, Jan became involved in helping animal rescue groups, the most recent being Out of the Woods, where she served on their Board. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Pleasant Valley Ladies Golf Association, as well as her golf trips with friends. When she was no longer able to play golf due to health issues, she enjoyed playing Mahjong, Rummikub, and cards. She was very competitive. She would teach family and friends to play Rummikub, and when we were lucky enough to beat her, we would just tell that she was a very good teacher! She was very social and enjoyed meeting with old friends as well as her new friends at Chenal Pines. She had many special friends over her lifetime too numerous to count, but you know who you are. We would like to give a special thanks to the greatest care team of Carol Mitchell, Rosaline West, Aaliyah Williams, Kesha Williams, as well as the Right at Home staff at Chenal Pines. We are eternally grateful for your love and care. We also want to thank Dr. Laura Otter, and the Doctors and staff of CARTI, especially Dr. Thomas Sneed and Dr. Jonathan Pagan, as well as Arkansas Hospice for all their compassionate care and concern as we traveled this journey over the past year and a half. Memorials may be made to, Out of the Woods, P.O. Box 7365, Little Rock, Ark., 72217. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m., until service time at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2021, in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, 72204, 501-661-9111, with Jeff Wingfield officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest Hills Mausoleum in North Little Rock. To sign the online guestbook, click "Add A Memory" at: www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com
