On Saturday, September 11, 2021, Charles B. "Chuck" Gates, of North Little Rock, Ark., loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 72. Chuck was born on November 1, 1948, in Madisonville, Kentucky, to William C. Gates and Margie Rogers. He served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1971 working in fuel systems maintenance in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas. On September 1, 1972, he married Carolyn Sue Easter. They raised three sons, John Perry of Mayflower, David Scott (Malinda) of Little Rock and Stephen Scott (Melaina) of North Little Rock. He worked as a sub-contractor building and remodeling homes for 50 years. Chuck had a passion for fishing and hunting, along with riding motorcycles, and listening to 1970s classic rock. But no matter how busy he was, he always made time for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides family, he was often seen striking up conversations with newcomers, as he "never met a stranger." Chuck was preceded in death by his father, William C. Gates, his mother, Margie Rogers Hight, and by his brothers, Bobby Lee Gates and Michael W. Gates. He is survived by his wife, Sue, his sisters, Debbie White (Danny) and Sharron Vandiver of Nortonvile, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 19, from 2-4 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, North Little Rock. The funeral service will also be held at Smith Funeral home Monday, September 20, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. His interment at Rest Hills Cemetery at 3 p.m., will include a military salute to his service in the armed forces.
