Clara Mae Freeman Rodgers

Clara Mae Freeman Rodgers, was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., on January 29, 1937. She was the second of five children, Lillie, Jefferson, Leroy, born to Jefferson and Ivaria Freeman of Pine Bluff, Ark. She attended Springhill Elementary through the 8th grade, then matriculated to Merrill High School, where she graduated in 1951. Clara continued her studies at Pine Bluff A.M. & N College, where she met and married her lifetime love, Joseph Rodgers. Upon marriage Clara and Joe moved to Los Angeles, California, where they had four children. Clara worked for Compton Unified School district, from which she retired to motherhood and an entrepreneurial adventure in secretarial services. Introduced to Christ at an early age, she was baptized in the name of Jesus, and filled with the Holy Ghost. She was an ordained evangelist with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Clara was called to rest and reward during the night of September 3. Clara fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (II Timothy 4:7). Internment will be Wednesday, September 29, in Los Angeles. Clara is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Joseph Henry Rodgers, and two of her children, Joseph Henry, Jr., and Darrell Keith, her three siblings, and both of her parents. She leaves to her cherished memories two children, Delfred (Helen) and Devery Rodgers, and three grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
