James D. Metcalf

JMAES D. "JIM" METCALF passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2022. Jim was born December 29, 1928, in Hardy, Ark. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Merle Metcalf, and the love of his life, Rosemary Swaim Metcalf, to whom he was married for 62 years. He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Harper (George) and his granddog Maisie; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1946 where he played football. Upon graduation he joined the US Army and served in the Pacific Operation stationed in Japan. He also served during the Korean Conflict as well as the War in Vietnam. He taught ROTC at the U of A Fayetteville. He was a member of the staff of the Arkansas Air National Guard and served as First Sergeant at the 123rd Reconnaissance Technical Squadron. Based on his low key quiet effectiveness and his premature grey hair he was affectionately known as the "Silver Fox." He was an avid golfer; And, he and Rosemary played in a number of tournaments. He loved animals particularly his many pet poodles. He also loved music and playing the piano. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Special thanks to Foxridge Assisted Living on Chenal, all his caregivers especially Brittney Pigee and Carlisa Luster. Donations may be made to the music program at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
