Dorothy Hudgens Young, 89, of Portland, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at her residence. Mrs. Young was a lifelong resident of Portland and a graduate of Portland High School. She loved playing the piano, having learned to play at age 13. Mrs. Young was a faithful, lifelong member of the Portland Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for 76 years and also served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. In addition, Mrs. Young enjoyed singing, sewing, and working in her vegetable garden. A devoted wife to her loving husband and a wonderful homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and feeding her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jim Young in 2007; her parents, Frederick Henry and Lucille Bain Hudgens and a brother, Bob Hudgens. She is survived by three sons, Scott Young and wife, Debbie, Bain Young and wife, Deana, and Bob Young and wife, Lisa, all of Portland; six grandchildren, Lindsey Williams and husband, Clint, Ashley Rutledge and husband, Aaron, all of Lake Village, Taylor Young and wife, Hannah, Brian Young and wife, Mackenzie, all of Portland, Riley Furrh and husband, Drake, of Houston, Texas and Paige Young of Portland; seven great-grandchildren, Macy Williams, Marly Williams, Henry Young, William Young, James Rutledge, Lily Rutledge and Davis Young and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sherron Days, Davinia Martin, Marsha Barber, Eunice Stokes, Marilyn Harrison, and Edelmira (Meada) Ramirez for the care and love they gave to Mrs. Dorothy. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Portland Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Harris and Bro. Jerry Selby officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Taylor Young, Brian Young, Clint Williams, Aaron Rutledge, Drake Furrh, and Wilburn Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Fisher, Gregg Grantham, George Rutledge, Ted Selby, Phil Selby, and Johnny Hennington.
