Dorothy Stockdill Russell

Dorothy Stockdill Russell, 91, of Grady, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born May 11, 1930, in Grady to the late Tom and Eugenia Bittinger Stockdill. Dorothy was reared and educated in Grady, graduating from Grady High School, and remained a lifelong Grady resident. She worked at Grady Elementary School as a secretary before her retirement. Dorothy served on the City Council and also as an alderwoman. She enjoyed handywork, sewing and needlecraft of all kinds. Dorothy was a parishioner of Holy Child Catholic Church in Dumas. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Marvin "J.M." Russell, whom she married July 13, 1947 in Grady, and who passed away June 9, 2003; three sisters; and two brothers. Dorothy is survived by her children, Marvin Russell (Judy), Tom Russell (Teresa), Patricia Finch (Joe), Dr. John Russell (Kresta), Bea Williams (Steve) and Janice Maroney (Wayne); nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the family home, 500 Choctaw, Grady, AR. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Grady Cemetery with Father Warren Harvey officiating.
