Wendell Langford, 88, passed away peacefully at home June 29, 2022. His family and friends will always cherish his love, quick wit and steadfastness. Wendell is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lynn Langford. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this month. Mary's advice on their long union is "just stop and take the time to love and show affection to each other". He was a devoted husband, loyal brother, father figure to his nephews, and bonus grandfather to his great nieces and nephews. Wendell's prowess on the football field at Searcy High School led to him being an outstanding punter for Arkansas State Teachers' College (now UCA) and subsequently into the field of coaching. His coaching career began in Newport, Ark., and ended in Searcy, Ark., where he and Mary made their home. He then switched career paths into the poultry industry and cattle farming. His great-nieces and nephews have fond memories of truck rides to feed the cows and riding "Billy Bob" the pony who lived on the farm. Along with his wife Mary, Wendell is survived by his sister, Iaunita Garrett; nephews, Mike Langford, Tim Langford, and Darryl Massey; along with a host of great-nieces and nephews. Pall bearers will be Mike Langford, Tim Langford, Troy Langford, Darryl Massey, Bengy Massey and Bob Cargile. Honorary pall bearers are the 1964 Searcy High School Lion football team. The family will receive visitors at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Searcy, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the Searcy Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to: Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
