Jimmie Lou Fisher, age 80, of Paragould, Ark., passed from this life on July 12, 2022, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Jimmie Lou was born on December 31, 1941, to the late Tollie Houston and Joyce Ednas Nutt Cooper in Delight, Ark. Jimmie Lou was a graduate of Vilonia High School, and attended ASU in Jonesboro. She then moved on to graduate from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government, State and Local Government Program in 1985. Jimmie Lou held many titles; She served as Greene County Treasurer from 1971 to 1978. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton as state auditor from February 1, 1979 to January 13, 1981. She was State Treasurer from 1981 to 2002, and a nominee for Governor in 2002. Jimmie Lou served on the Board of Directors of the Rural Telephone Bank (USDA), appointed by President Clinton in 1996. She was a member of the Credentials Committee, Democratic National Convention in 1976. She earned many distinguished awards including the Arkansas Democratic party "Gressie Carnes Award" in 1979, the George C. Douthit "Freedom of Information Award" in 1989, and the Stennis Center for Public Service Leadership "Lindy Boggs Award" in 2009. Jimmie Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Tollie Houston Cooper and Joyce Ednas Nutt Cooper; and her beloved son, George Kevin Fisher. She is survived by her brother, Randal Vaughn Cooper and wife Alissa of Paragould; her sisters, Tollie Sue Nunn of Paragould, Vicki Jo Cook and husband Charles of Benton, Ark., Debbie Lynn Rogers and husband Rhys of Little Rock, Arkansas; special nieces and nephews, Rickey Eugene (Shawnda) Nunn, Franklin Blaine (Vicki) Nunn, Tollie Leighanne (Keith) Harvey, Juli Morgan (Wes), Trey Cook (Carrissa), Mattie Baker (Kevin), Benjamin (Becca) Rogers, Claire (Nick) Terry, Andrew Vaughn Cooper, Tollie Elizabeth Cooper, Nathan Thomas Cooper; and a host of great-nieces, -nephews, relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. The family will also receive friends on Thursday July 14, 2022, from 11 p.m. until service time. A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 14, at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Dr. Randy Hyde officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Paragould. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Randy Cooper, Rickey Nunn, Blaine Nunn, Trey Cook, Benjamin Rogers, and Andrew Cooper.
