Owen Elmer Conrad

Owen Elmer Conrad, 87, passed away on June 24, 2022, 19 days after his wife of 65 years, in Columbia, Mo., close to family. He was born December 4, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, to Elmer and Dorothy (Waltman) Conrad. Owen graduated from Central High School in 1954, Akron, Ohio. He joined the Marine Corps Service when he was 16; upon high school graduation joined active-duty Marines driving tanks and armored vehicles. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he married Dorothy "Carol" Adams on July 20, 1957. One of his hobbies was his love of cars. They were able to travel the world with one of his favorite trips being able to drive the Autobahn in Germany twice. His career in the carpet industry moved them to many different states. Many of his customers became his best friends. While living in Missouri, he and his family tried their hand with raising cattle on their small farm. He retired from General Felt Industries to Bella Vista, Ark., where he enjoyed the golfing and fishing with his bass boat, meeting and having lunch with close friends. In retirement, he volunteered managing the children book section at Helping Hands Inc. Thrift Store in Bentonville, Ark. He was a member of the Bella Vista Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, Ark. Owen is survived by his son, Keith Conrad (Sheri) of Hallsville, Mo.; and granddaughter, Kelsey Henry (AJ) of Chesterfield, Mo., talking with her weekly; son, Christopher Conrad (Carol), granddaughters Eliza, Lindsay, and Abagail of Manchester, N.H.; and sister-in-law Margie Dazey, and brother-in-law and best friend Bill Dazey; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Carol Conrad; and his parents. There is no scheduled funeral service. Inurnment is handled by Heartland Cremation of Columbia, Mo.
