Clinton E. "Charlie" Brown, age 72, through God's grace came into this world on July 9, 1949, in Madison, Tennessee, to Mabel Virginia Lackey and Harry Clinton Brown, and on July 8, 2022, he left this world to serve in God's service and be reunited with those gone before him. Charlie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was a friend to many whom he always thought of before himself. During a long, distinguished career in service to his country in the United States Air Force for 26 years and nine days, Charlie served combat tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He held Master of Arts Degrees in Public Administration and Human Resource Development. After the Air Force, Charlie entered the field of Human Resources Management, where he held human resource director positions at PeopleWorks in Little Rock, Ark., The City of Jacksonville, Ark., and Rubber & Gasket Company of America, Inc., in North Little Rock, Ark. He was a certified professional, holding certifications as a Certified Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) and a Certified Professional International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-CP).
Charlie's awards and military decoration included being selected as the 314th Airlift Wing, Little Rock Air Force Base First Sergeant of the Year (1989); the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing Bitburg Air Base Germany, First Sergeant of the Year (1985). He received three (3) Air Force Meritorious Service Medals; the Air Force Commendation Medal; the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with V device for Combat Operations. In addition to these awards, Charlie has served in several leadership positions including Department Commander State of Arkansas Disabled American Veterans (DAV) President of Little Rock Air Force Base First Sergeant's Council; President of the Bitburg AB Germany First Sergeant Council, Division Officer and Chapter President of the Air Force Sergeant's Association; and the City of Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, a board member with the Central Arkansas Human Resources Association and as Chapter President with the Arkansas Public Employers Human Resources Association.
Charlie was an adjunct faculty member with Webster and John Brown Universities where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in public and private sector human resource management, career management, situational leadership and management, organizational management and interpersonal communications. Beginning in March 1995, for more than 17 years Charlie volunteered to conduct monthly lectures for the United States Department of Labor, Military Transition Assistance programs, and assisting Veterans leaving military service in securing suitable and rewarding employment after the military.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory his best friend (red-headed girlfriend) and wife of 48 years, June, a wonderful daughter, Melissa Renee Brown-Johnson (John) and three precious grandchildren, ShawnJoseph Edward Brown, Joshua Lane Kelley, and Savannah Renee Kelley. He also leaves a host of wonderful sister and brother-in-laws, along with several nieces and nephews. A visitation for Charlie will be held on Thursday, July 21, at 6-8 p.m., at Pinecrest Funeral Home, located at 7401 AR-5 N, in Alexander, Ark. A service will be held on Friday, July 22, at 2 p.m., with an interment following at 3 p.m., at Pinecrest Funeral Home and Memorial Park as well. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to either DAV or Wounded Warriors.
