Horace Richard Burford, age 95 of New Edinburg passed away Wednesday July 20, 2022. Born August 19, 1926, to Horace Burford, Sr. and Fannie John Lovan in rural Cleveland County, He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathryn Russell Burford, who he married June 26, 1946; and a sister, Catherine Wilson. Horace is survived by his son, John Burford (Mary); daughter, Kay Earnest (Reggie); four grandchildren, Jamon Burford (Jill), Jeremy Burford (Cortney), Casey Earnest, and Megan Earnest. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kayla Burford, Allison Burford, Hayden Burford, Gavin Burford, and Brynn Burford. He has one nephew, Ricky Wilson; and a niece, Melinda McKnight. He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal after his discharge from the Navy. He also worked in the woods and loved to haul pulpwood. He worked for AP&L, now Entergy, from 1952 until he retired in 1986. He enjoyed many hobbies and working in his garden. He was well-known for his wood crafts, making birdhouses and tables. He may have had some struggles, but lived life to the fullest. Horace would make you laugh, cry, and clap at all the stories he shared. Our family is grateful to know that he is finally at peace. We would like to thank his St. John's Place family who loved him and took special care of him. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Smith-Morgan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smith-Morgan Cemetery or to Mt.
