Stephen Steed

Stephen Steed, business editor and writer for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, died at his Little Rock home on March 21, 2022. He was 62. Stephen was born on October 27, 1959, to Billy and Twila Steed. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Philip Steed. He is survived by a sister, Rebekah Steed Roddy of Jonesboro, Ark., brother, Mark Steed of Jonesboro, and brother Jonathan Steed of Oklahoma City, Okla. He is also survived by nephews, Ryan Steed (Katie), Robert Steed, and Philip Steed. Jr. Also surviving are nieces Lauren Sullivan (Travis), Sarah Wilkins (Tyson), Anne Marie Sharp (Dylan), and great-nephews Beau Sullivan, and Philip Sharp. Stephen was a native of Leachville, Ark./ where he shared birthdays with his three other brothers. All four boys were born on October 27 (Navy Day) and were featured in Ripley's Believe it or Not. Their birthdays featured a Halloween Black Cat birthday cake and a host of friends. After high school, Stephen studied journalism at the University of Arkansas. He served as an intern at the Arkansas Gazette and was later hired to a staff position. When the Gazette closed in 1991, he was a reporter for Donrey and the Stephens Media Group and then held a communications job at the Arkansas House of Representatives. In 2016, he returned to the Democrat-Gazette where he was currently employed. Stephen loved journalism and visiting with people across the state of Arkansas. He was highly respected and loved by his many friends and colleagues in Little Rock. He was beloved by his family. He often hosted birthday parties and other themed parties for family and friends. He was a diehard fan of the Razorbacks and the Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed seeing his Razorbacks move into the Sweet Sixteen. He also was a fixture at Midtown Billiards for years. His presence and light will be missed by many. The family will receive visitors Friday, May 13, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville. There will also be a Celebration of Life Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. at The Bernice Garden, 1401 Main Street, in Little Rock. Online guest register at www.howardfuneralservice.com
