Edward C. Thompson

Edward C. Thompson, Jr., age 74, died unexpectedly at his home in Forrest City, Ark., on Friday, February 25. He was affectionately known to many as "Sonny". He was born on November 26, 1947 in Memphis, Tenn., to Edward Clyde "Pint" Thompson, Sr. and Martha Jessaline (Matthews) Thompson. They predecease him. Sonny played several sports at Laura Conner High School in Augusta, Ark., where he graduated in 1965. He attended the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Mississippi-Oxford. He practiced the profession of pharmacy for over 40 years in Memphis, Forrest City (where he owned a pharmacy) and Brinkley, Ark. Sonny married Cynthia Silski in Forrest City on November 28, 1981. They celebrated 40 years of marriage recently. Sonny was an avid fisherman, deer hunter and duck hunter. He enjoyed these pursuits with several of the same friends from Augusta and his son, Larry, over the years. He also enjoyed Razorback sports, especially football and basketball, and could often be found in front of the tv on Saturdays watching games. Sonny is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his children, Larry Silski (Charlotte) of Wynne, Ark., and Denise Yates (Danny) of Forrest City, Ark.; his sister, Joan Thompson Beard of Columbia, Mo.; his grandchildren, Kimberly Dailey (Nathan), Shauna Silski and Kara Silski of Wynne, Ark., Coy Yates of Forrest City, Ark.; and five great-grandchildren, as well as three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Michael Beard, of Portland, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital, the ASPCA and the American Cancer Society. The family expresses its appreciation to all who showed their support as Sonny dealt with cancer. The celebration of life will be held for family and friends Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Powell Funeral Home, 701 N. 9th in Augusta, Ark., at 2 pm. An informal reception will follow at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 310 Pearl St. in Augusta. Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Woodruff County. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
