JERE W. JOHNSON passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022. He was born May 7, 1936, in Little Rock, Ark., to Ezell and Myrtle Johnson. The Johnson family moved to Little Rock in 1935 from Tennessee. He graduated from LRCHS in 1954. He worked for the Rock Island RR for 12 years, before moving on to work for the USPS in 1965, and retired in 1997. He also retired from the Air National Guard at LRAFB after 20 years of service. Jere is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marge; two sons: Michael (Dianne) and Mark; two grandsons: Jake and Brian (Candace); a great-grandson; five great-granddaughters, many close nieces and nephews, and his cousin, Harold "Bo" Algee, who was like a brother to him. He is preceded in death by his three sisters: Gladys Pearson, Sybill Goss, Lorraine Armstrong; and a brother, William "Bill" Johnson (Pat); along with a cousin he considered his sister, Virginia Dancy (Jim). Jere will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He had a kind heart and a dry sense of humor which he passed on to his children and their children. Jere loved baseball and the history of Little Rock and its numerous railroads over the years. He cherished his lifelong childhood and work friendships and stayed in touch with these friends throughout their lives.
