Damon Auston Robbins

Damon A. Robbins, 84, of Arkadelphia, Ark., was welcomed by the Lord and a host of loved ones in Glory on October 29, 2022. Born January 1, 1938, near Smackover, Ark., the son of William Auston and Alice Thelma (Rowland) Robbins of Norman, Ark. He married Royce Lee Carr in Mount Ida, Ark., on July 6, 1960. Damon was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William Truman Robbins (Lucy) and Preston Arlando Robbins. He is survived by one son and two daughters: Damona Fisher and husband, Steve, of Little Rock, Darin Robbins and wife, Gina, of Okolona, Deonna Whatley and husband, Kyle, of Little Rock; his brother, Harlan Robbins of Glenwood, Ark.; and his sister, Melva Jean Floyd of Norman; grandchildren Meghan McCain (James) of Okolona; Austin Robbins (Evie) of Smithville, Ark., and Jackson Whatley of Little Rock; and five great-grandchildren, Ruger, Harlen, Caroline, Lizzy, and Nettie; a host of nieces and nephews – all of whom he loved dearly. Damon was a retired welder and a multi-craftsman with Reynolds Metals Company in Gum Springs, a retired maintenance worker with Henderson State University, and was retired from his HVAC business Robbins Heating and Air. He was a former member of the Arkadelphia Bass Club and a former fishing guide on Lake Ouachita. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon, Ark., where he served as a former deacon and elder, member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, and superintendent. Fishing brought Damon much joy from his childhood on the banks of the Caddo River to adulthood on any beautiful Arkansas lake. He loved quail and deer hunting, especially when experiencing with generations of family and friends. He played basketball in school. He played baseball in school and recreationally, until he was almost 35 years old. He loved and respected the outdoors and relished opportunities to be in God's creation. He was a great husband and father. A family storyteller, he knew and taught us the importance of family and true friendship. His hugs, smile, stories and wisdom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, Gurdon, followed by services there at 10 a.m., with the Reverend Jason Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Robbins Cemetery in Caddo Gap, Ark. Pallbearers will be Darin Robbins, Austin Robbins, Jackson Whatley, Gary Robbins, Gary Alexander and Guy Alexander. Honorary pallbearers include Jeff McNeal and Mike Beggs.
