Leland F Felix

The Hot Springs community has lost one of its most generous & caring members with the passing of Leland F. Felix, 86, on Nov. 17, 2022. Son of the late Lee & Birdey Felix, Leland grew up in Missoula, Mont., and was a graduate from Montana State University in Missoula with a B. S. in Physical Education. After graduating, he went to Hawaii where he served an airline steward for three years. In 1963, He moved to Galveston, Texas to study Physical Therapy and met his wife-to-be, June Barry, from Lake Providence, La. They were married on Dec. 27, 1965, in Lake Providence, La., and moved to Hot Springs shortly after. Leland was first employed by St. Jospeh's hospital as their Physical Therapist and in December 1965, had the opportunity to buy Parker Brace Co. Over the next few years he was able to expand the business into both Orthotics & Prosthetics and renamed it Felix Brace & Limb. For the next 45 years, He served the community as a Certified Prosthetist & Orthotist, retiring from private practice in 2010. From 2010 until now, He and his son Lance have provided these services to the inmates in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Leland's wife June was his creative partner in the elaborate window displays that were a "must-see" drive-by event at 310 Higdon Ferry Road for so many holiday seasons in the Spa City. Leland was a member of the Hot Springs Jaycees and Sertoma club, both associated with the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Organization for many years. He was also a member of the British Motoring Club of Arkansas with his wife June & son Lance. Leland is survived by his son Lance, of Hot Springs, and sister-in-law, Ann Barry Cain of Brandon, Miss.; and nieces Julie & Lorrie Threet of Great Falls, Mont. There will be a joint Celebration of Life service for both Leland & June at 11 a.m., on Nov. 30 at First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs. Instead of flowers, Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation or church/charity of one's own choosing.
