On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, Dr. Howard Powers Cassada, loving husband and beloved father of two and grandfather ("Papa") of six, passed away at age 88. Howard was born on May 18, 1934 in Columbia, S.C. to Charles and Mary Alice (Powers) Cassada. He lived many places as a child with his family, which included his brothers Chuck and Steve. He graduated from dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago, then served in the Air Force as a dentist and officer. Fortunately, he was stationed in Amarillo, Texas, where he soon met his wife-to-be, Clarice! They married on December 22, 1962, and spent the next four decades in Amarillo, building a busy dental practice and raising their daughters, Lori and Dena. He was involved in church, where he served as a deacon and elder and on medical missions overseas. Upon retirement, he raised funds and improved facilities at El Porvenir Christian Camp, a place dear to his family and church. He then founded the Amarillo Community Dental Clinic to provide free dental care for those in need. In recognition of his efforts, he was awarded the American Dental Association Access Recognition Award; Catholic Family Service Volunteer of the Year for 2001; and was a national finalist for the Catholic Charities USA Volunteer of the Year award. In 2006, Howard and Clarice moved to Jackson, Tenn., to be closer to their children and grandchildren, who lived in Nashville and Little Rock. In June 2020 they moved to a retirement community in Little Rock. Howard was preceded in death by his parents' as well as his older brother Charles (Chuck) Orville Cassada, Jr., and younger brother, Stephen Hale Cassada. He loved his brothers and their families, and truly enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his loving wife of 59.75 years, Clarice; and his two beloved daughters; Lori Roberts and husband Kent, and Dena Comden and husband Mark. He is also survived by six grandchildren he loved with all his heart, Greer, Ben, and Katy Roberts, and Nathan, Reese, and Curry Comden. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at the chapel at Parkway Village, 14300 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark., at 2 o'clock p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to El Porvenir Christian Camp, Montezuma, N.M. We take great comfort in knowing Papa is in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father until we are united together again.
