Kathleen "Neene" Wharton Smith

Kathleen "Neene" Wharton Smith 88, died peacefully in Mountain Home, Ark., on May 31, 2022. She was born to Ollie and Iola Pendleton on Jan 5, 1934. After her father's death at the age of three, she lived with her grandparents, Coral and Tom Griffin. Following the war, her mother remarried Dr. Joe B Wharton Jr who adopted mom. Kathleen attended the University of Arkansas where she met her husband, Marion Randolph Smith. They were married 50 years and had four children. She loved interior design, decorating and was an avid gardener. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband and her youngest son, Thomas Christopher Smith. She is survived by her son, Rand Smith, wife Sandra, of Conway, Ark.; her son, Mike Smith of Norfork, Ark.; a daughter, Katie Schonert, husband Terry of Phoenix, Ariz.; Anna Smith, wife of Chris Smith. Kathleen was so proud of her grandchildren, Tate Smith, wife Whitney, Kathleen Schonert, John Schonert, Katie Smith, Griffin Smith and great-grandchildren, Grace and Nolan Smith. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St Mary's Episcopal Church in El Dorado, Ark on October 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. The online guestbook and obituary are available at www.connerfamilyfuneralhome.com.
