William "Bill" Keef Mathis

William "Bill" Keef Mathis, age 83, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away, October 2, 2022, at his home. Bill was born September 7, 1939, in Harrison to Burl and Edith Keef Mathis. Bill was a United States Army veteran, serving his country in Vietnam. He was also a 32nd degree Freemason, founder of the Arkansas chapter of the Lymphoma research foundation and longtime member of the North West chapter of the Arkansas State Old Time Fiddlers Association. Bill loved the Ozark mountains and had a great amount of pride for being from the mountains and his mountain heritage. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Bill was also a worker and never fully retired, but worked every day for the trucking company where he was not considered to be only an employee but was treated like family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 45 years, Mona Mathis; and son, James K. Mathis. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Mathis and Lynda Mathis Taylor; one brother, Burl Mathis Jr.; sister, Cheryl Markee; and sister-in-law, Pam Posey; along with many other family and friends. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Nogo Cemetery in Nogo, Ark., with brother Jeremy Mathis officiating.
