Carl Dean Beavers, Sr., 90, of Searcy, died peacefully Thursday, October 6 with family by his side. He was a coach, business owner, veteran and an avid athlete. Carl played basketball at Arkansas State Teacher's College (UCA) on an athletic scholarship. College is also where he met his wife Johnnie Huie, the mother of his five children and love of his life for over 70 years. Left to cherish his memory are Johnnie Beavers (wife), and sons Carl Beavers, Jr. and wife Azita, John Beavers, and daughters Karm Prock and Dr. Toni Beavers, grandchildren Jonathan and wife Tessa, Caroline, Casey Blakeman and husband Josh, Dr. Chaney Black and husband Daniel, LTJR Hayden May, and MIDN Henry May. He also was blessed with four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Emma Sue (Bradley) Beavers and daughter Tina Daniel.
Carl was born on October 28, 1931 in Clinton, Ark. Carl graduated from Clinton High School in 1949 and spent two years in the US Army as a military policeman. He then attended ASTC (UCA) earning a degree in education. He worked as a coach and high school teacher and then started his own business. His passion for athletics and youth drove him to referee and coach many different sports, positively contributing to the community of White County. Carl was an active member of the Lion's Club and volunteered for fellow Veterans and was a member of the College Church of Christ. He loved spending time talking about sports and his favorite teams, Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals.
Visitation services are 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 7. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m.,, Saturday, October 8 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Searcy.
