Ed W. Harris

Ed W. Harris, 86, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away October 12, 2022. He was born in Delhi, La. on April 5, 1936. Ed graduated from Coleman High School and received a Bachelor of Science from AM&N College (now the University of Pine Bluff). He married wife Leola in 1961. Ed enjoyed a long, successful career as an educator, working in the Dumas, Watson Chapel (Pine Bluff), and Helena/West Helena school districts. He retired as Superintendent of the Helena/West Helena schools in 1996. A born-again Christian, Ed loved attending church and was a faithful member of Kings Highway Baptist Church (Pine Bluff) and, later, Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church (Jacksonville, Fla.). He was survived by his wife, Leola; children Danny Harris, Sheila Higgins, Myron Harris, and Sharon Warrick; and many grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church, 1721 W 19th Street, Jacksonville, Fla. 32209.
