Thurston Shelby Fox

Thurston Shelby Fox, 84, of North Little Rock passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022. Thurston was born on August 28, 1938, in Hot Springs, Ark.; the son of George Shelby and Vela Melvia (Nooner) Fox. Thurston married his wife Catherine Jane (Halbert) Fox on April 7, 1961, sharing over 61 years of marriage. He attended Ouachita Baptist College and was a longtime record holder in track and field at the university. He served over 22 years in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and retired as Major. His service took Thurston and his family all over the world. He served in the Panama, Korea, and Vietnam. While in Vietnam he received the bronze star for valor, and four purple hearts for injuries he received. Thurston loved leatherworking and had won many awards for his efforts. He was a member of the Arkansas Leather Guild. He also enjoyed travel, spending several years in his RV. Thurston is survived by his wife, Jane; his son, Robert Shelby Fox and his wife Tammy of Little Rock; his daughter Vicki Fox of Conway; two granddaughters, Victoria Lauren Fox of Little Rock and Amy "Aly" Alexandra Fox-Laverick of Sheffield, U.K. and her husband Jack; and his brother, Wendell D. Fox and his wife Jennifer of Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mary Ellen Spann and Velda Ruth Fox. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, October 31 at Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway; with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m., in the funeral home with Justin Brooks officiating. Committal services with honors and burial will commence at 1 p.m., in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave., North Little Rock. Thurston's family suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to either the Quapaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America or the Wounded Warrior Project.
